The Presidio Graduate School Net Impact student chapter has been named a 2013 Gold Chapter, a status that recognizes leaders among more than 300 chapters whose members are students and professionals committed to working in business to create social and environmental change.

A Gold Chapter exceeds Net Impact’s requirements for participation, programming and community impact. This is the fourth consecutive year that Presidio Graduate School has achieved this honor, the highest possible for a chapter in the global network of Net Impact, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization.

“I am ecstatic for our chapter. We have a chapter among the top ranks, and this speaks to what we’re about and to the high level of motivation and achievement of our students,” says Mitchell Friedman, associate dean of career development and student affairs for Presidio Graduate School and adviser to the chapter. “The investment our students have in the chapter is impressive. Achieving gold status is intentional and purposeful and takes a lot of time and energy.”

Co-presidents Emma Allison and Ayaka Emoto led the Net Impact chapter, which serves as an umbrella organization for all Presidio Graduate School student clubs focused on sustainability. Allison says of becoming a Gold Chapter, “It’s recognition for being an active and engaged community. Presidio is a small school, but we have big ideas.”

The Presidio Graduate School chapter has also been selected as an organizer and host of Net Impact’s conference, which will be held in San Jose this year. The chapter is responsible for planning three of the 11 tracks in the October conference, addressing social finance and impact investing, sustainable food and nonprofit management.

“It’s an exciting conference, and we get to work with other students,” says Allison. “It’s great exposure for Presidio because everyone here is so engaged.”
